Year 7 Catch Up Funding 2015-16

What is the Year 7 Catch Up Funding?

The Government has allocated £500 per pupil to those pupils in the current Year 7 cohort who did not achieve level 4 in reading and/or mathematics.

How can I know how much my school has been allocated?

In 2014-15 there were 17 pupils eligible for the funding which resulted in a budget of £8,500. In 2015-16, there are 44 pupils eligible for the funding which will result in a budget of £22,000 which will be reflected in our school budget in March 2016.

Are pupils that fail to achieve level 4 in both reading and mathematics, eligible for double funding?

No - schools are allocated a maximum of £500 for each pupil who has not achieved at least level 4 in reading and/or mathematics.

How is the funding spent and how is the impact is measured?

The school uses the designated funding to support the role of a Literacy Intervention Assistant.

This role includes small group ( maximum 6) and targeted 1-1 support for pupils who have failed to reach level 4 at Key stage 2. This is to support improvements in reading, comprehension, phonics and spelling. This links also to whole school support for Literacy withdrawal where the Literacy Assistant supports the withdrawal group, targeting those at level 3. The Teaching assistant also supports English lessons where her target pupils are placed. This means that support is available across a range of classroom environments.

The Teaching assistant also completes all base line reading assessments/ Reading ages/ spelling while still at primary to ensure good transition planning. The Teaching Assistant as part of both SEN and Aspire Teams will review progress at key dates.
